Dinanagar, (National Times Bureau) – The country observed a Black Day today to remember the Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel. A tribute ceremony was held at Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), dedicated to Constable Maninder Singh of CRPF’s 75th Battalion, who was martyred in the attack six years ago.
Dignitaries Pay Homage
SDM Jaspinder Singh Bhullar (IAS) and AAP district urban president Shamsher Singh attended as chief guests. Other key attendees included Colonel Vishwanath (25 MAC Unit Commanding Officer), ASP Dilpreet Singh (IPS), and General Secretary of Shaheed Sainik Parivar Suraksha Council, Kunwar Ravinder Singh Vicky. Maninder Singh’s father Satpal Attari, sisters Shabnam, Sheetal, Gagan, and other family members also paid tribute.
The event began with lighting a lamp in front of Maninder’s portrait, followed by floral tributes. Addressing the gathering, SDM Bhullar emphasized that the nation remains indebted to heroes like Maninder. He stressed that honoring martyrs’ families and following their path is the best way to repay their sacrifice. Bhullar also urged the youth to draw inspiration from such brave soldiers, avoid drugs, and focus on achieving meaningful goals.
Punjab’s Legacy of Sacrifice
AAP leader Shamsher Singh highlighted that districts like Gurdaspur and Pathankot have always produced bravehearts who defended the nation. He recalled witnessing how soldiers endure extreme conditions, from freezing temperatures to scorching heat, ensuring the country’s safety. Singh stated that the courage to join the armed forces is often found in children from humble backgrounds, and Punjab has consistently given the highest number of sacrifices in India’s history. The Punjab government, he assured, remains committed to honoring fallen soldiers and supporting their families.
Pulwama Attack Was a Deep Wound to India
Kunwar Ravinder Singh Vicky called the Pulwama attack a major blow to India’s dignity. He remembered how the nation lost 40 bravehearts in the terrorist attack, followed by India’s strong response, where the army destroyed terror camps inside Pakistan. Vicky paid tribute not just to Maninder Singh but also to the 39 other martyrs.
A large number of martyr families and community members attended the ceremony to honor their sacrifices.
