Mystery Data Scientist Backed by Elon Musk Estimates Over $100 Billion in Government Waste

February 25, 2025 – A data scientist known as “DataRepublican” has claimed that more than $100 billion in taxpayer money is either being stolen or wasted. In an interview with NewsNation’s Brian Entin, she shared her findings on alleged government inefficiencies, using artificial intelligence to analyze financial discrepancies.

Unmasking Government Waste with AI

While keeping her identity secret due to security concerns, DataRepublican explained how she uses AI to uncover fraud, waste, and abuse in government spending. Her work has gained attention on X (formerly Twitter), where billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk frequently shares her findings.

Asked to estimate the total taxpayer money lost to mismanagement or corruption, she said, “Whew. If I had to guess, I would say it is over $100 billion. But what is more important is what they are doing with that money.”

Connection to Musk and DOGE

Despite Musk’s public support, DataRepublican clarified that she has no direct communication with him. Instead, she has established a “working relationship” with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a group focused on exposing financial mismanagement.

“I want to be clear. I don’t communicate directly with Elon. He found me and he supports my work,” she stated. “But I have communicated with some people who are involved with DOGE. And I don’t want to say much more than that.”

She admitted she is unsure how Musk first discovered her work but expressed gratitude for his endorsement. “Honestly, I don’t know, you’d have to ask him. But I’m grateful,” she said, calling his engagement with her research a “whirlwind” experience.

The Fight Against Fraud

With artificial intelligence playing an increasing role in detecting financial irregularities, DataRepublican’s revelations add to the growing concerns about government accountability. As her research gains traction, the question remains—where is the missing money going, and what will be done to stop it?
