Murder Convict Shot Dead Inside Patna Hospital ICU; Six Detained

Patna, July 17, 2025 — A convicted murderer on parole was shot dead by a group of armed assailants inside the ICU of a private hospital in Patna on Thursday morning, in a chilling attack that has triggered widespread alarm over hospital security and gang rivalries.

The victim, 36-year-old Chandan Mishra from Buxar district, was admitted for treatment while on parole from Beur Jail, where he was serving a sentence in a murder case. He had a lengthy criminal history, with at least 24 cases registered against him, including more than a dozen for murder.

According to police, the shooting occurred around 7:30 am when five men entered the hospital and made their way to the ICU. Surveillance footage, now viral on social media, shows the attackers walking into the ward and firing at Mishra at close range before escaping.

Inspector General (Central Range) Jitendra Rana stated that the attackers have been identified and that multiple police teams have been formed to arrest them. “Six suspects have already been detained in Patna and Buxar,” he confirmed.

Patna (Central) SP Diksha said that CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding areas is being examined in detail. “Raids are underway, and we are confident of making arrests soon,” she noted.

Initial investigation points to a longstanding gang rivalry as the likely motive. A formal case has been registered and police have launched an intensive search operation to apprehend the culprits. Authorities are also investigating how armed men managed to enter a hospital ICU without any obstruction.
