National Times Bureau, May 30, 2025: Mumbai Indians (MI) kept their IPL 2025 campaign alive by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs in the Eliminator match held in Mullanpur on Friday. With this victory, MI advanced to Qualifier 2, where they will face Punjab Kings for a spot in the final.
Opting to bat first, MI posted a formidable total of 228/5, driven by a masterful 81-run innings from captain Rohit Sharma off just 50 balls. Contributions from Jonny Bairstow and Hardik Pandya helped accelerate the scoring, pushing MI beyond the par score.
In response, Gujarat Titans put up a spirited chase led by Sai Sudharsan, who scored 80 off 49 deliveries, and Washington Sundar, who added 48 runs. However, disciplined bowling from MI in the final overs stifled GT’s momentum, limiting them to 208/6 in 20 overs.
MI’s strong all-round performance now sets up an exciting Qualifier 2 clash with Punjab Kings, with the winner advancing to face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2025 final.
