Abbotsford (Richa Walia): Sukhman Gill, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Abbotsford South Langley, will officially launch his constituency office on Friday, July 25, at Garden Park Tower (#205–2825 Clearbrook Road) from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Gill stated, “It is a profound honor to serve the people of Abbotsford-South Langley, and I am thrilled to establish this new office.” He further emphasized that this space will serve as a central hub for community engagement, support, and advocacy – a place where constituents can seek assistance with concerns and receive solutions or clear guidance. At 25 years old, Gill achieved a remarkable victory in the federal election. However, the campaign leading up to the election was marred by internal party tensions and public criticism. Former longtime MLA Mike de Jong’s bid for the Conservative nomination was rejected by the national office, despite strong grassroots support.
Conversely, Gill a newcomer to politics with limited local endorsement received approval from the national office and secured the Conservative nomination on March 8. The controversy intensified during the campaign when Gill declined to participate in public debates or media interviews, prompting criticism from community members. A citizens’ group launched a petition urging the Conservative Party to either compel Gill to engage publicly or disqualify him from the race. Despite the tumultuous start, Gill’s victory marked a significant generational shift in local politics. His office now promises to be a space for transparent communication and meaningful service to constituents.
