Mother, grandfather detained after 19-day-old baby found abandoned in forest with lips sealed with glue

National Times Bureau :- In a disturbing case from Bhilwara, Rajasthan, the police have detained a woman and her father after a 19-day-old infant was found abandoned in a forest with his lips sealed using glue and a stone stuffed in his mouth.

The newborn, discovered two days ago, was rescued after a shepherd grazing goats in Mandalgarh heard faint cries and alerted the authorities. The infant was immediately rushed to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, where he remains under intensive care.

According to Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh Yadav, preliminary investigations suggest the baby was born out of an illicit relationship. To escape social stigma, the woman and her father reportedly rented a room in Bundi under fake identities for the delivery. They allegedly tried to sell the child, and when the plan failed, abandoned him in the forest.

“We have detained a woman based on intelligence inputs. She is being questioned. Initial findings indicate the child was born out of her affair, after which he was deserted,” said Yadav.

Doctors at Bhilwara Medical College confirmed the infant remains in critical condition. “The baby is on oxygen support due to breathing difficulties and has also suffered burns from contact with hot stones,” said doctors.

The police have ordered a DNA test to establish the child’s parentage. Meanwhile, the rescued infant is under round-the-clock medical supervision.
