Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): The retreat of the southwest monsoon from Punjab is imminent, with the weather department confirming that conditions are ripe for its withdrawal within the next 24 hours. The departure is part of a broader shift across northern India, including neighboring Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a dry weather pattern for Punjab until at least September 29. Officials have assured that there are no warnings for rain during this period, and the state is likely to experience clear skies.

Daytime Heat Persists, Nights Begin to Cool

While daytime temperatures have edged upward slightly, nights are beginning to cool down — a typical pattern seen during the end of monsoon and onset of the post-monsoon season. Over the last 24 hours, there was a slight rise of 0.2°C in the state’s average maximum temperature. The overall maximum temperature remains nearly 1.9°C higher than the seasonal norm.

The highest temperature recorded in the state was 37°C, reflecting lingering heat during the day, especially in central and southwestern districts.
