Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Monsoon conditions are likely to remain active over Punjab and Chandigarh, with several parts of the state expected to receive rain on Monday. While some districts may witness light to moderate showers, isolated rainfall is also possible in other areas.
Chandigarh is likely to remain partly cloudy, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers during the day. The continuing cloud cover and rainfall activity are also expected to keep temperatures relatively moderate.
Punjab’s maximum temperature has dipped marginally by 0.2 degrees Celsius, bringing it closer to the normal range for this time of the year. Bathinda remained the hottest place in the state, recording 39°C.
Several Districts Under Rain Forecast
The weather forecast indicates light to moderate rainfall in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar. Isolated showers may occur over Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Mohali, Ferozepur and Sangrur.
Similar conditions are expected in Gurdaspur, Amritsar and Nawanshahr. Scattered rainfall has also been forecast for Fazilka, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala and Mansa.
The Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh has attributed the prevailing conditions to an active monsoon over the region. The monsoon trough is extending through Amritsar and Patiala, while an upper-air cyclonic circulation remains over north Haryana and nearby areas.
These weather systems are supporting moisture influx over Punjab and increasing the likelihood of rain across different parts of the state.
Anandpur Sahib Gets Heaviest Rain
Several locations received rainfall on Sunday, with Anandpur Sahib recording the highest amount at 46.5 mm.
The rainfall totals reported from other locations included 18 mm at KVK Pathankot, 17.5 mm at Ropar KVK, 14 mm at Bhakra Dam, 9 mm in Mohali, 3 mm at Thein Dam, 2.5 mm in Hoshiarpur and 2 mm in Gurdaspur.
Although skies and atmospheric conditions in Chandigarh and Mohali were favourable for rain, neither location recorded precipitation during the period.
Water Levels Remain Within Safe Limits
Despite continued rainfall in parts of Punjab, all dams in the state are currently below their danger marks. This provides some relief as authorities continue monitoring water levels during the monsoon.
With more rain forecast, weather conditions are expected to remain changeable across Punjab over the coming period. Residents in areas likely to receive heavier showers may experience temporary waterlogging, particularly in low-lying locations, while farmers and local authorities continue to monitor the impact of the rainfall on crops and water resources.
