Modi Targets TMC Over National Security, Calls for Change in West Bengal

New Delhi, January 18, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, accusing it of compromising national security for vote-bank politics and asserting that a change in leadership was necessary to ensure development and effective governance in the state.

Addressing a public rally in Singur in Hooghly district, Modi alleged that the TMC was shielding illegal infiltrators and failing to cooperate with the Centre on crucial security-related measures, including the fencing of international borders. He claimed that repeated requests by the central government for land required for border-fencing had not received a response from the state administration over the years.

The Prime Minister alleged that illegal immigrants residing in West Bengal by using forged documents must be identified and deported. He further accused the ruling party of supporting networks that allegedly help infiltrators settle in the state, describing the situation as a threat to internal security.

Modi told the gathering that electing a BJP government in the state would help eliminate illegal immigration and strengthen governance. Reiterating his party’s pitch for a “double-engine government,” he said coordination between the Centre and the state was essential to accelerate development and improve law and order.

Calling the present situation in Bengal a “maha jungle raj,” Modi urged voters to support the BJP to bring what he described as stability, transparency, and good governance to the state. He maintained that only a BJP-led government could ensure both security and sustained development in West Bengal.
