Tianjin, August 30 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that India fully supports all global efforts to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The phone call, initiated by Zelenskyy, came just two days before Modi’s scheduled meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China.
In a post on X, Modi said, “Thank President Zelenskyy for his phone call today. We exchanged views on the ongoing conflict, its humanitarian aspect, and efforts to restore peace and stability. India extends full support to all efforts in this direction.”
According to an official readout, Modi reaffirmed India’s “steadfast and consistent position” for a peaceful settlement and expressed New Delhi’s willingness to extend all possible support for the earliest restoration of peace.
Zelenskyy, on his part, briefed Modi on recent developments in Ukraine and ongoing challenges. Both leaders also reviewed progress in bilateral ties and discussed avenues to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
Modi arrived in Tianjin on Saturday evening to participate in the SCO summit, where he is expected to hold talks with several world leaders, including Putin.
