Modi, Putin Discuss Ukraine Conflict and Bilateral Ties After Alaska Meeting with Trump

New Delhi, August 18, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday received a phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who briefed him on his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent position that the ongoing Ukraine conflict must be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue. He stressed that India supports every genuine effort aimed at restoring peace.

The two leaders also discussed various aspects of India-Russia cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. Both agreed to maintain regular communication on regional and global developments.

Following the call, Prime Minister Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Thank my friend, President Putin, for his phone call and for sharing insights on his recent meeting with President Trump in Alaska. India has consistently called for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and supports all efforts in this regard. I look forward to our continued exchanges in the days to come.”
