Taijin, September 1 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his visit to China on Monday, where he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and held high-level discussions with world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a post on X, Modi described his trip as “productive” and noted that he highlighted India’s stance on several “key global issues.” He expressed gratitude to President Xi, the Chinese government, and the people of China for successfully hosting the summit. The visit marked Modi’s first trip to China in seven years.
Addressing the summit, which was attended by leaders such as Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Xi Jinping, Modi urged nations to reject double standards in tackling terrorism. He described fighting terrorism as a “duty towards humanity” and condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it an assault not only on India’s conscience but also on global values.
Outlining India’s vision for the SCO, Modi introduced a three-part framework for the grouping: “S for Security, C for Connectivity, and O for Opportunity.”
On the sidelines of the summit, Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin, where the two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation in areas including energy, trade, and finance. Modi emphasized the need for an early resolution of the Ukraine conflict, stressing that ending the war is “a call of humanity.” Both leaders noted steady progress in their nations’ economic ties.
Earlier, Modi also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders discussed ways to expand trade, investment, and cooperation on global challenges. They agreed on the importance of stabilizing commercial ties and reaffirmed their commitment to working toward a fair resolution of the long-standing border issue.
Modi’s trip to China came after a two-day visit to Japan, concluding his two-nation tour. His interactions with Putin and Xi also took place against the backdrop of strained India–US relations, impacted by trade disputes and criticism from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
