Mayor Jeromy Farkas Commits to Reducing Property Tax Increase Proposed by Previous Council

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Calgary’s newly-elected Mayor, Jeromy Farkas, has pledged to curb the substantial property tax increase proposed by the previous city council. Calling the planned hike “exorbitant,” Farkas emphasized that his foremost objective is to bring about a “significant reduction” in the proposed increase, aiming to ease the financial strain on Calgarians already contending with inflation and rising living costs.

The mayor stated that he will try to reduce the property tax and look for practical solutions to balance the city’s financial needs without overburdening residents. He reaffirmed that his administration will work to lower the tax hike while safeguarding essential city services through prudent budgeting and expenditure reforms.

Farkas’s commitment signals a shift toward fiscal responsibility and transparency at City Hall, marking the beginning of a new approach focused on restoring public trust and achieving financial balance in the city’s operations.
