Mathura (Rajeev Sharma): Rescue teams recovered another body on Sunday in the aftermath of the boat capsize incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district, taking the total number of fatalities to 12, officials confirmed.
Additional District Magistrate Amaresh Kumar stated that the body was found near Chamunda Ghat during ongoing search operations along the Yamuna river. The remains have been sent for further procedures, while efforts continue to trace those still missing.
A large-scale rescue mission remains underway, involving eight teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and four teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with support from local authorities. The teams are using coordinated search methods to comb the river and surrounding areas.
The tragedy unfolded on April 10 when a boat carrying pilgrims overturned, leading to multiple casualties and triggering an extensive search and rescue response. Officials noted that difficult conditions, including water currents, have slowed progress, but operations are continuing without pause.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to locating all missing individuals and providing assistance to affected families. The incident has also raised concerns about safety protocols, prompting calls for stricter measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
