National Times Bureau :- In a tragic incident, a Punjab Roadways bus ran over three school-going children and their father in Mansa’s Jhuneer town on Saturday, killing two sisters on the spot while critically injuring father and brother.
The deceased have been identified as Seema Kaur (8) and Meena Kaur (15). Their father and brother were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The bodies of the victims were sent for the post mortem examination. Meanwhile the police have seized the Punjab Roadways bus and arrested the bus driver. An investigation into the incident has also been initiated.
Local residents have expressed grief over the tragedy and demanded strict action against the accused with stricter enforcement of traffic safety measures in the area.
Investigating officer Keval Singh said that in view of the upcoming festivals, the Jhuner police had set up a checkpoint near the bus stand when they received information that a roadways bus had run over schoolchildren, killing two schoolgirls on the spot. He added that the police have taken the bus and its driver into custody, and further action is being taken.
