Manipur on boil: BSF personnel’s two children killed in rocket attack as tensions escalate in Bishnupur

Gurpreet Singh :- Fresh violence erupted in Manipur after a suspected rocket attack struck a civilian home in Bishnupur district, killing two children and leaving their mother critically injured.

The incident took place in the early hours of April 7 at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Moirang, a village located along the sensitive hill-valley boundary.

The preliminary investigation suggests, a projectile believed to have been fired from nearby hill areas hit the residence of Oinam Malemnganba, a Border Security Force personnel posted outside the state.

Tronglaobi is located near the foothills of Churachandpur district and is seen as a sensitive area because it is close to regions where armed groups are believed to operate.

Villagers said that such attacks have happened before, with projectiles being fired from higher positions in nearby hills, possibly using long-range weapons from several kilometres away. This latest attack has increased tensions in the valley districts. After the incident, some angry locals reportedly set fire to two oil tankers and a truck in Bishnupur that were on their way to Churachandpur.

A group of protesters also gathered at Moirang Police Station, putting pressure on the authorities.

Security forces have increased their presence, and the area is now on high alert. Search operations and surveillance are being carried out in nearby hill areas to find those responsible.

Local MLA Thongam Shanti strongly condemned the attack and demanded strict action against those involved.

Authorities have asked people to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands.
