Major Shake-Up in Meghalaya Cabinet: Eight Ministers Resign Ahead of Reshuffle

National Times Bureau :- In a dramatic political development, eight ministers of the Meghalaya Cabinet tendered their resignations on Tuesday, paving the way for a significant reshuffle in the Conrad K. Sangma-led government.

Officials confirmed that Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who heads the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, submitted the resignations of his colleagues to Governor C.H. Vijayashankar during a meeting at Raj Bhavan. The swearing-in of new ministers has been scheduled for 5 p.m. the same evening.

Among those who resigned are Ampareen Lyngdoh, Comingone Ymbon, Rakkam A. Sangma, and Abu Tahir Mondal from the NPP; Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla from the UDP; Shakliar Warjri from the HSPDP; and AL Hek from the BJP. Their exit clears the path for the induction of new faces into the state Cabinet.

Party insiders revealed that NPP legislators Valadmiaki Shakliar, Sosthenes Sohtun, Brening A. Sangma, and Timothy D. Shira are likely to be included. The UDP is expected to be represented by party chief Metbah Lyngdoh and former minister Lahkmen Rymbui. Meanwhile, HSPDP legislator Methodius Dkhar is set to replace Shakliar Warjri, and BJP’s Sanbor Shullai will step into the Cabinet in place of AL Hek.

The sweeping reshuffle is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the ruling alliance and balance representation across parties ahead of crucial political challenges.
