Srinagar, September 24, 2025 — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF) operative from Kulgam district, accused of providing vital support to terrorists behind the Dachigam forest encounter, known as Operation Mahadev.
The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Mohammad Yousuf Kataria, a resident of Kulgam who worked as a seasonal teacher. According to investigators, Kataria supplied equipment and extended logistical aid to LeT/TRF militants active in the Pahalgam region.
Police officials said his involvement was confirmed after a forensic analysis of arms and supplies recovered at the encounter site. Kataria was arrested, presented before a court, and remanded to judicial custody. Authorities described the arrest as a crucial breakthrough in efforts to dismantle the terror support network in South Kashmir.
The development comes in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, where 26 men were shot dead after being singled out based on their religious identity. The brutality of the killings sparked national outrage.
In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor on the night of May 6–7, striking terrorist infrastructure across the border in Pakistan. The offensive was one of the most forceful responses by India against cross-border terrorism in recent years.
