Ludhiana West Bypoll Election Result 2025: The counting of votes for the high-stakes Ludhiana West by-election began today at 8 am, with tight security in place. The bypoll was necessitated by the death of sitting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi earlier this year, and the outcome is expected to have wide political implications across Punjab.
During the initial two rounds of trends, AAP’s Sanjeev Arora was seen leading with a margin of over 1000 votes while Congress’s Bharat Bhushan Ashu is trailing in the second spot. The BJP is still struggling in third place while Akali Dal remains at the low in fourth place.
Ludhiana SP DK Chaudhary confirmed that around 450 police personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth and peaceful counting. “We have implemented a three-layered security cordon around the counting center. Only authorized individuals are being allowed entry,” he stated.
The seat has drawn attention due to the fierce multi-cornered contest between AAP, Congress, BJP, and SAD. AAP is hoping to retain the seat with its Rajya Sabha MP and industrialist Sanjeev Arora, while Congress is banking on former MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu to reclaim lost ground. BJP has fielded Jiwan Gupta, and SAD is represented by advocate Parupkar Singh Ghumman.
With over 1.74 lakh registered voters, the constituency saw an aggressive campaign period filled with personal jibes, but lacking focus on key local issues like infrastructure, pollution, and law and order. The voter turnout, while decent, reflected the urban apathy seen in past elections.
As the counting progresses, tension is high among party workers and supporters who have gathered outside the center, eagerly awaiting updates. The result is expected to be declared later in the day and could shape political narratives ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
