New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) faced severe operational challenges on Wednesday as dense fog and reduced visibility led to widespread flight disruptions. A total of 148 flights were cancelled, while more than 150 flights experienced delays, authorities said.
The cancellations included 78 arriving and 70 departing flights. Additionally, two flights had to be diverted to other airports due to the poor visibility. IGIA, operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), manages roughly 1,300 flight movements daily, making the disruption significant for travelers.
In a morning update on X, DIAL confirmed that visibility was slowly improving, though some flight operations could still be affected. Airport staff were actively assisting passengers across terminals, coordinating with airlines to manage the impact of the delays and cancellations.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation also issued a cautionary note on X, highlighting that foggy conditions across parts of Northern India could continue to disrupt air traffic. The ministry instructed airlines to ensure that passengers are informed promptly, provided assistance for delays, and offered options for rebooking, refunds, and baggage handling as needed.
Passengers were advised to stay in touch with their airlines and plan extra travel time, as operations continue to be affected by the lingering fog.
