Minister Anil Vij announces ₹12.5 lakh from his discretionary fund for meritorious students
Chandigarh, May 31 – Haryana’s Minister for Power, Transport, and Labour, Anil Vij, said that the new generation is increasingly consumed by mobile phones, televisions, and computers. To ensure a more aware and healthier youth, he emphasized the need to reduce screen time spent on mobile devices and television.
Vij was speaking as the chief guest at the “Bhavishya Jyoti Samaroh,” an event organized to honour meritorious students of Ambala district. During the ceremony, he felicitated 125 top-performing students from various schools in the district and announced a grant of ₹10,000 each (totaling ₹12.5 lakh) from his discretionary fund.
We Need a Society That Can Build Character and Guide People in the Right Direction
Vij expressed concern over how people now spend a significant portion of their day watching the world through television screens, influencing their behaviour based on what they see. While acknowledging that mobile phones have made society more aware, he also warned of their negative effects. He stressed the need for individuals and communities that can build moral character, impart knowledge, and guide society on a positive path so that people can lead meaningful lives and inspire others.
Use Technology, But Be Aware of Its Ill-Effects
The Minister urged people to distance themselves from excessive use of mobile phones and social media, citing health concerns linked to overuse. He advocated for leveraging the benefits of technology while remaining cautious about its harmful effects. Reflecting on earlier times, he noted that knowledge sources were limited and structured. Today, however, the digital age demands greater discipline. Emphasizing the significance of light as a metaphor for knowledge, he recalled the saying, “Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya” – meaning, “from darkness, lead me to light,” encouraging the youth to move forward in life with clarity and purpose.
