Legal Heat Intensifies Over BBC’s Sidhu Moosewala Documentary; Court Seeks Reply by June 16

BBC Releases Sidhu Moose Wala Documentary on YouTube Despite Legal Plea from Singer’s Father

Mansa, Punjab (National Times): In a significant development in the legal tussle over the controversial BBC documentary on late Punjabi artist Sidhu Moosewala, the Mansa District Court has directed the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to submit a written reply by June 16.

The hearing took place earlier today following a petition by Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh, who is seeking an immediate halt to the circulation of the BBC-produced film titled “The Killing Call.” The family alleges the documentary was released without prior consultation and may contain sensitive and misleading content.

During the court proceedings, the BBC was represented by a lawyer from Chandigarh, who requested time to study the petition and formulate a response.

Balkaur Singh had earlier stated that the documentary’s timing, being released on Moosewala’s birth anniversary, was particularly hurtful and appeared to overshadow the family’s own tribute, which involved the release of three new songs by the singer.

The Mansa court’s next session on the case will be held on June 16, where BBC’s response will be examined before any decision is made regarding further legal action or possible injunctions.

This case continues to draw intense public attention as Sidhu Moosewala remains one of Punjab’s most revered and controversial musical icons, whose murder shocked fans across the globe.
