Lalu Prasad Expels Elder Son Tej Pratap Yadav from RJD, Cuts Family Ties Over ‘Irresponsible Behaviour’

Patna, May 25, 2025 – Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party for six years and disowned him from the Yadav family, citing “irresponsible behaviour” and conduct unbecoming of someone associated with the legacy of social justice.

The action followed a controversial Facebook post by Tej Pratap, in which he shared a photo with a woman and introduced her as “Anushka Yadav,” claiming they had been in a relationship for 12 years. The post, now deleted, triggered widespread media attention and internal party backlash. Tej Pratap later claimed that his account was hacked and the post was unauthorized.

In a strongly worded statement, Lalu Yadav said his son’s actions went against the moral and ethical values that the RJD has upheld for decades. He said the decision was not only political but also personal, aimed at preserving the dignity of the family.

Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap’s younger brother and a key leader in the RJD, backed his father’s decision, stating that the party could not tolerate such conduct, even if it involved a family member. He noted that while his brother was free to make personal choices, the party had to act in the interest of its public image and discipline.

Sources close to the Yadav family say that this development could have major ramifications on the party’s internal cohesion and its campaign ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
