Kejriwal’s Security Cover Under Review Amid Political Row

New Delhi, March 6, 2025 – The central government is reassessing the security cover of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Officials will evaluate the threat perception in the coming days to decide whether his Z-category security should remain or be downgraded. Kejriwal’s security, initially provided by Delhi Police, was upgraded by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) due to security threats.

Political Controversy Over Security Cover

The reassessment follows criticism from both the BJP and Congress over the extensive security provided to Kejriwal. The BJP accused him of using his 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat as an excuse for luxury. Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa mocked the scale of security arrangements, questioning how Kejriwal, who once called himself a “common man,” was now surrounded by expensive cars, commandos, and emergency services.

Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal compared Kejriwal’s security detail to that of US President Donald Trump, stating, “Kejriwal, who criticizes VIP culture, now has a security cover bigger than Trump’s.”

Vipassana Retreat in Punjab

Kejriwal is currently attending a 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat at the Dhamma Dhaja Vipassana Centre in Anandgarh, Punjab. Vipassana is an ancient Indian meditation technique focused on self-transformation through self-observation. He has previously attended sessions in Jaipur, Nagpur, Dharamkot, and Bengaluru. This is his second visit to Anandgarh, following his December 2023 retreat.

What’s Next for Kejriwal?

Following the BJP’s landslide victory in Delhi, winning 48 out of 70 seats, Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been reduced to just 22 seats. With a new political landscape, Kejriwal’s security and future political moves remain under scrutiny.
