Kedarnath Dham Sees Record Influx with 1.24 Lakh Pilgrims in First Four Days

Kedarnath (Gurpreet Singh): The Kedarnath Dham has witnessed a massive surge in devotees, with over 1.24 lakh pilgrims visiting the shrine within the first four days of its opening for the 2026 yatra. According to data released by the Rudraprayag District Information Office on Saturday, a total of 1,24,782 devotees have offered prayers since the portals opened on April 22. On Saturday alone, 31,160 pilgrims reached the temple by 5:00 p.m., highlighting the high intensity of this year’s pilgrimage season.

Rudraprayag District Magistrate Vishal Mishra confirmed that the yatra is proceeding smoothly under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. To manage the heavy footfall, administrative and police personnel have been stationed at all helipads and along the arduous trek route. Mishra also announced that the evening ‘aarti’ at the shrine would commence today, following the traditional opening of the Shri Bhairavnath temple portals.

The Kedar Sabha has stepped forward to address concerns regarding crowd management, with President Rajkumar Tiwari dismissing reports of mismanagement as baseless. Senior members of the Sabha, including Umesh Chandra Posti, urged pilgrims to ignore misleading social media reports, clarifying that the Shri Badarinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has implemented an efficient token system to ensure quicker ‘darshan’ for everyone. Local residents and authorities have also coordinated to ensure that adequate food and lodging remain available despite the significant influx.

To ensure the safety of the pilgrims, the district administration is monitoring the entire yatra route through a dedicated 24/7 control room. This centralized system allows for an immediate response to any emergencies or logistical bottlenecks. Officials have reiterated that all teams are working diligently to maintain the sanctity of the pilgrimage while ensuring a comfortable experience for the thousands of devotees arriving daily.
