Bengaluru, August 10, 2025 – The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has formally requested Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to submit documentary proof supporting his recent claim that a voter had cast her ballot twice in the state.
In an official notice issued on Sunday, the CEO stated that the documents were required to facilitate a detailed inquiry into the allegation. Gandhi had presented the purported evidence during a press conference in New Delhi last week, naming the voter as Smt Shakun Rani.
According to the notice, Shakun Rani denied voting more than once, asserting that she had participated in the election only a single time. A preliminary investigation by the CEO’s office further revealed that the tick-marked document shown by Gandhi was not issued by the polling officer, raising doubts about its authenticity.
The election authority has now asked Gandhi to provide all relevant material that formed the basis of his statement, so that a comprehensive probe can be conducted.
