Karnal and Sonipat Win National Swachhata Awards, CM Saini and Minister Goel to Receive Honours in Delhi

Haryana Poised for Stronger Sanitation Drive under CM Nayab Singh Saini’s Leadership, Says Minister Vipul Goel

Chandigarh, July 15 — In a significant boost to Haryana’s sanitation efforts, Karnal and Sonipat cities have been selected for national honours under the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, Cabinet Minister Vipul Goel announced on Tuesday. The award ceremony will take place on July 17 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal will present awards across various categories. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel will attend the event to receive the awards on the state’s behalf.

Sharing details of the achievement, Minister Goel said Karnal has earned a spot among the country’s top 15 cleanest cities—a matter of great pride for Haryana. Meanwhile, Sonipat will receive the Ministerial Award for excellence in sanitation. These recognitions underscore Haryana’s sustained commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, backed by innovative strategies and strong on-ground execution.

Minister Goel highlighted that under the leadership of CM Nayab Singh Saini and himself, Haryana has advanced its sanitation initiatives through public awareness campaigns, technological innovation, and robust implementation. In the 2025-26 state budget, the government earmarked funds for supplying modern equipment—including vacuum suckers, tree trimmers, shredding machines, sweeping machines, patchwork machines, and washing/sprinkling units—to all municipal bodies and councils. The effective use of such technology has significantly elevated the state’s sanitation standards.

Over the past decade, Haryana has scientifically disposed of approximately 6.9 million metric tonnes of waste from 75 legacy dumping sites, reclaiming around 109 acres of land, now being transformed into green belts, parks, and community amenities.

Minister Goel also revealed that he recently visited NTPC’s green coal plant in Varanasi to expedite similar projects in Haryana. Cities like Faridabad and Gurugram are expected to produce 400-500 tonnes of green coal daily from municipal solid waste, promising major strides in environmental protection, waste management, and renewable energy innovation.

Concluding his statement, Minister Goel said, “Our goal is not just to eliminate filth but to transform Haryana into a truly clean state. This national recognition affirms Haryana’s progress and commitment toward achieving higher sanitation standards and sustainable development.”
