Kabaddi Promoter Rana Balachauria Dies After Being Shot at Sohana Tournament in Mohali

Mohali, December 15, 2025: Kabaddi promoter and player Rana Balachauria, who was critically injured in a firing incident during a Kabaddi tournament in Sohana on Monday, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Fortis Hospital in Mohali. Hospital authorities declared him brought dead.

According to preliminary information, Balachauria sustained four to five bullet injuries to the head when unidentified assailants opened fire at the tournament venue. The attack triggered panic among players and spectators present at the event.

Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Harman Hans, who reached the spot soon after the incident, said that initial investigations suggest the possibility of personal rivalry, though all angles are being examined. He added that a detailed probe is underway to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the shooting.

Earlier, police sources had said that the assailants arrived at the venue in a Bolero vehicle and on a motorcycle before opening fire and fleeing the scene. Balachauria was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition before being referred to Fortis Mohali, where he later died.

There were also reports that Punjabi singer Mankirat Aulakh was expected to attend the tournament, though officials said his visit was not officially confirmed.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are scanning CCTV footage from the area. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
