Jassi raises concern over vulgarity row linked to Yograj Singh’s web series

Gurpreet Singh :- Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi has reacted strongly to the controversy surrounding actor Yograj Singh over an alleged objectionable dialogue used against women in the web series Lukkhe. The issue, which has already triggered legal proceedings and public criticism, has now sparked a wider debate within the Punjabi entertainment industry over the growing use of vulgar and insensitive content.

Speaking on the matter, Jassi said the controversy had once again exposed the lack of understanding many writers and producers in the OTT and film industry have about Punjabi language, culture and social values. He remarked that several creators were encouraging artists to use objectionable expressions merely to attract attention and generate commercial success, without considering their long-term impact on society.

“I rejected many projects over objectionable language”

The singer stated that people often questioned his decision to walk away from certain songs and projects, but the present controversy had validated his stand. According to him, he had deliberately avoided projects where the lyrics or dialogues crossed cultural and moral boundaries.

Jassi further said that Punjabi music and entertainment had increasingly witnessed the glorification of double-meaning lyrics and inappropriate expressions. Referring to certain controversial songs and dialogues from the past, he argued that such content had gradually normalised offensive language in mainstream entertainment.

Concern over impact on younger generation

Expressing concern over the influence of such material on society, Jassi said the real problem begins when objectionable songs and dialogues become popular and are widely accepted without criticism. He stressed that artists and writers must recognise the responsibility they carry while creating content that reaches millions of viewers and listeners.

He added that even when actors perform fictional roles, there should be a clear understanding of cultural sensitivity and social boundaries. According to him, Punjabi culture does not permit the normalisation of abusive or degrading language, particularly against women.

Calls for responsible content creation

Jassi maintained that Punjabi artists themselves must take responsibility for preserving the dignity of their language and culture instead of relying on outside creators to understand local sensitivities. He said the industry must focus on producing cleaner and more meaningful entertainment so future generations inherit a healthier cultural environment.

The controversy surrounding the web series has continued to attract reactions from various sections of the Punjabi entertainment industry, with several artists and social groups demanding greater accountability in digital content platforms.
