Jaishankar to Attend G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meet in Canada as India–Canada Ties Improve

New Delhi, November 11, 2025 — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to visit Canada on November 12 to participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Ontario, marking a key moment in the gradual improvement of India–Canada relations.

The Ministry of External Affairs said Jaishankar will attend the outreach session for G7 partner nations at the invitation of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand. His participation highlights India’s ongoing commitment to collaborating with global partners to tackle international challenges and strengthen the “voice of the Global South” in major world forums.

During the trip, Jaishankar is also expected to hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit to explore new avenues for cooperation in trade, investment, and security.

The visit comes a little over two months after India and Canada appointed new high commissioners in each other’s capitals, signaling a mutual effort to mend strained diplomatic ties. Relations between the two countries had sharply deteriorated after former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian government agents of involvement in the 2023 killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar—an allegation India dismissed as “absurd.”

Jaishankar and Anand have already met twice in recent months, first on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York and later during Anand’s visit to New Delhi. Following these meetings, both sides unveiled a roadmap to rebuild trust and resume discussions on trade and investment cooperation.
