Faridkot (Gurpreet Singh): A prolonged covert investigation by Faridkot Police has resulted in the exposure of an alleged heroin supply chain operating across parts of Punjab. The breakthrough came after authorities acted on information reportedly intercepted from within a prison, setting off nearly two months of surveillance and field operations.
Police confirmed the arrest of six suspects said to be connected to the narcotics racket. Among those taken into custody are a serving member of the Indian Army and a former police employee who had previously been dismissed from duty. Officials stated that several of the accused have past cases registered against them under the NDPS Act.
During search operations, law enforcement teams seized around 4.8 kilograms of heroin. A firearm was also recovered, along with two vehicles — a Thar SUV and an XUV — believed to have been used for transportation and coordination of illegal consignments.
Investigators suspect that the network had established both supply and distribution channels and may have been operating beyond district limits. Authorities are now examining digital evidence, financial trails, and call records to identify additional collaborators and uncover the full extent of the operation.
A fresh FIR has been lodged, and further inquiries are underway to trace forward and backward linkages in the suspected drug network.
Reiterating its commitment to tackling narcotics trafficking, Punjab Police said intensified enforcement and intelligence-driven action will continue as part of its broader campaign to curb the drug trade in the state.
