Israel–Iran Conflict Intensifies: Over 240 Reported Dead as Tehran Rejects Truce, Launches Fresh Airstrikes

National Times Bureau— The Israel–Iran military confrontation deepened today after renewed airstrikes resulted in more than 240 deaths in Iran and at least 24 civilian fatalities in Israel, state and international agencies confirmed.

Israel struck back at Tehran’s military and nuclear infrastructure, targeting oil depots and missile installations, in what officials now describe as their “largest strike to date.” More than 100 targets, including sites in Natanz and Tehran, were hit. Among the casualties were senior Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists. In response, Israeli air-raid sirens forced residents to evacuate neighborhoods close to these military zones.

Iran retaliated with missile attacks on Israeli cities: Tel Aviv, Haifa, Petah Tikva, and others while killing at least 24 civilians. Over 100 Israeli citizens were injured in these bombardments. Emergency services reported structural damage in residential blocks across central Israel.

Iranian authorities confirmed 224 deaths (90 percent civilian), bringing the total toll to over 240 in Iran. The impact triggered mass evacuations from Tehran as residents fled fearing further strikes. Shops were shut, basic utilities strained, and cash withdrawal became difficult amid the chaos.

Tehran has rebuffed ceasefire overtures, stating mediation is not on the table “while under attack,” and pledged continued retaliation. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned the conflict will not expand, “unless forced,” yet reinforced Iran’s readiness to defend against any threat.

International response remains cautious. The U.N., IAEA, and European leaders have urged “urgent restraint” as global oil prices surged over 7 percent amid fears of regional destabilisation.

What Lies Ahead
Both sides appear locked in a spiral of escalation, with Iran vowing more forceful responses and Israel warning civilians in targeted zones to evacuate. With diplomacy stalled, and regional dynamics volatile, global attention focuses on avoiding a wider Middle East conflagration.
