Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana government has suspended mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Charkhi Dadri and Bhiwani districts until 2:00 PM on August 21, citing security concerns after the alleged killing of a young woman named Manisha.
The state Home Department issued an order on Monday stating that the restrictions were necessary to curb the circulation of rumours, inflammatory posts, and misleading information on social media platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter). Authorities cautioned that unchecked online activity could incite violence, threaten public safety, and lead to damage of property.
The suspension applies to 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, CDMA and GPRS internet services, bulk SMS (except for banking and mobile recharge), and dongle-based data connections. However, essential services such as voice calls, individual SMS, mobile banking, recharge facilities, and broadband internet remain unaffected.
Officials explained that the decision followed recommendations from senior police officers who warned of possible unrest, vandalism, and violent incidents if precautionary measures were not taken. Telecom operators across the state have been instructed to implement the order without exception.
The notification also makes it clear that anyone found violating the suspension order will face legal action under applicable laws. The move, authorities stressed, is aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring peace in the two districts, where police remain on heightened alert.
