SRINAGAR (Rajeev Sharma): An IndiGo aircraft arriving at Srinagar from Navi Mumbai was damaged after it struck a pole while being positioned at the airport on Friday morning. No passenger or crew member was injured in the incident.
The aircraft operating flight 6E 225, bearing registration VT-NOG, was being moved into Bay No. 6 at around 9:02 am when it came into contact with a pole belonging to the airport’s Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS).
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) confirmed the incident and said everyone on board remained safe.
Passengers leave aircraft safely
Following the contact, passengers and crew members were taken off the aircraft using manual aircraft stairs.
The AAI said there were no reports of injuries, while the aircraft sustained damage in the incident. Further assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is expected to determine the extent of the damage.
The incident occurred during the parking procedure after the aircraft had arrived at Srinagar airport, rather than during flight operations.
Investigation likely to follow
The aircraft’s contact with the VDGS pole is expected to be examined to establish how the incident occurred during the positioning process.
The Visual Docking Guidance System is used at airports to assist pilots in accurately positioning aircraft at designated parking bays.
Despite the damage to the aircraft, the incident did not result in injuries, and passengers were able to safely disembark.
The latest incident adds to a series of aviation-related occurrences that routinely prompt checks of aircraft and airport infrastructure to determine whether any operational or technical issues contributed to an event.
