India’s Post Offices to Accept Digital Payments Nationwide by August

New Delhi, June 27, 2025 — Post offices across India will begin accepting digital payments from August as the Department of Posts completes the rollout of a new IT application integrating advanced digital transaction features, official sources confirmed.

Until now, post offices have struggled to accept digital payments because their accounts were not synced with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system. The new initiative aims to change that by equipping counters with technology to support transactions using Dynamic QR codes.

“The Department of Posts is implementing its IT infrastructure which will have new applications that are enabled to perform transactions with Dynamic QR Code. Rollout will be completed at all post offices by August 2025,” said an official source.

A pilot rollout of this upgraded system under the IT 2.0 initiative has already started in the Karnataka circle. Successful QR-based bookings of mail products have been conducted at the Mysore Head Office, Bagalkot Head Office, and various subordinate offices.

Previously, the Department of Posts had introduced static QR codes at point-of-sale counters to facilitate digital payments. However, persistent technical challenges and customer complaints led to the discontinuation of that earlier system.

The nationwide rollout is expected to significantly modernize the country’s vast postal network and offer customers greater convenience in making digital transactions for postal services.
