Hyderabad, July 19, 2025 — Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday announced that India’s electronics exports have surged past USD 40 billion an eight-fold increase over the last 11 year signaling the country’s aggressive push toward becoming a global manufacturing hub.
Speaking at the 14th Convocation of IIT Hyderabad, Vaishnaw said the domestic electronics production has grown six times during the same period. “That’s a double-digit compound annual growth rate, something any corporate would envy,” he noted.
The Minister credited this remarkable growth to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-term vision. “Very few countries of our size have ever seen this kind of pace in electronics manufacturing,” he added.
Vaishnaw also underscored India’s swift progress in its high-speed rail ambitions. The country’s first bullet train, he said, is expected to be operational by August or September 2027.
In another major development, Vaishnaw announced that the first commercial-scale ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip will be manufactured within this year. With growing investments in capital equipment and semiconductor-grade materials, India is poised to become one of the top five semiconductor nations in the near future, he said.
Highlighting the strides in indigenous technology, the Minister pointed out that India designed and deployed a complete 4G telecom stack in just three and a half years. It is now active on nearly 90,000 telecom towers more than the total telecom infrastructure in many countries.
