Indian Techie Killed in Police Shooting in California, Telangana Family Seeks Government Help

Mahabubnagar (Rajeev Sharma): A family in Telangana is seeking urgent assistance from Indian authorities after their 30-year-old son, Mohammed Nizamuddin, was fatally shot by police in Santa Clara, California, earlier this month. The incident reportedly followed a domestic altercation, though full details remain unknown.

Nizamuddin, a software engineer originally from Mahabubnagar district, had been working in the United States after completing his higher education there. His family received word of his death only on Thursday morning, leaving them in shock and desperation.

Scuffle Preceded Police Response

The information, relayed to Nizamuddin’s father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, by a family friend in the U.S., suggests that the shooting took place on September 3 following a disagreement between Nizamuddin and his roommate. The dispute allegedly escalated, leading to a police response that ended in gunfire.

No official explanation has been issued by U.S. authorities so far regarding the circumstances under which the shooting occurred or whether Nizamuddin was armed or posed a threat.

Plea to External Affairs Ministry

In a written appeal to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Hasnuddin requested immediate assistance to bring his son’s remains back to India. “We were informed that my son was killed by the police in Santa Clara, and his body is currently in a hospital there. We are completely in the dark about what actually happened,” he wrote.

The grieving father also urged Indian diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco to help coordinate the repatriation process and extend support to the family during this difficult time.

Political Support Emerges

Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), has joined the family’s call for help, sharing their appeal with the media and tagging senior government officials on social media platforms to expedite action. Khan expressed concern over the lack of clarity surrounding the case and pressed for a transparent investigation.

Promising Career Ends in Tragedy

Nizamuddin had pursued a Master’s degree in the U.S. and was employed in the tech sector in California. According to his family, he had no history of legal trouble and had been living a stable life abroad. His sudden and unexplained death has left the family grappling with unanswered questions.

Neighbors and relatives in Mahabubnagar gathered at the family’s residence, offering condolences and urging authorities to take swift action to ensure that Nizamuddin’s body is returned home without further delay.

As the family waits for official communication from the Indian government and U.S. authorities, their appeal remains simple: bring their son home, and help them understand how his life came to such a tragic end.
