Indian Consulate in Toronto Launches One Stop Centre to Support Distressed Women Nationals

Toronto, Dec 27, 2025 — The Consulate General of India in Toronto has set up a dedicated ‘One Stop Centre for Women’ to provide structured support to Indian women nationals facing distress in Canada.

The Centre has been launched to assist Indian passport holders dealing with situations such as domestic violence, abuse, family disputes, abandonment, exploitation and legal difficulties. Alongside the facility, the Consulate has also activated a 24×7 helpline to ensure immediate access to help.

According to the Indian mission, the One Stop Centre for Women will function as a coordinated, beneficiary-focused support system. It will connect affected women with appropriate assistance, including immediate counselling, psycho-social care and facilitation of legal guidance, while also helping them access relevant community and social service resources available in Canada.

The Consulate clarified that all interventions by the Centre will be carried out strictly within the framework of local Canadian laws. The facility will be managed by a woman Centre Administrator, who will oversee the delivery of safe, dignified and comprehensive assistance to women in need, based on eligibility and means.

Support services will include emotional counselling through empanelled non-governmental organisations, with any financial assistance provided strictly on a means-tested basis in accordance with Government of India rules. Distress calls received through the round-the-clock helpline will be handled promptly to ensure timely intervention.

The One Stop Centre will operate from the premises of the Consulate General of India in Toronto. The Centre Administrator can be contacted at +1 (437) 552 3309 or via email at osc.toronto@mea.gov.in.

The Indian mission has also updated its official website with a detailed FAQ section outlining the scope and limitations of assistance that Indian officials can offer to women who are cheated, abandoned or abused by overseas Indian spouses.
