Imphal (Manipur), February 10, 2025: In a major success against insurgent activities in Manipur, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and other security forces, apprehended eight militants and recovered 25 sophisticated weapons along with large quantities of warlike stores and ammunition. The operations, driven by specific intelligence inputs, were conducted across multiple districts, including Kakching, Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, Imphal East, and Chandel.
The arrested insurgents are reportedly affiliated with banned militant outfits like the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF). The cache of recovered weapons includes AK-47 assault rifles, INSAS rifles, 7.62 mm SLRs, 9mm pistols, .22 pistols, multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), grenades, country-made rifles, mortars, single barrel guns, and a significant stockpile of ammunition.
Key operations began on February 2 in Chandel district, where security forces seized an AK-47, a country-made .303 rifle, 9mm pistols, IEDs, and grenades. On February 3, a joint operation with the CRPF and Manipur Police in Bishnupur’s Saiton Khunao area led to the recovery of AK-47s, submachine guns, 2-inch mortars, grenades, and ammunition. In Tengnoupal district on February 4, suspicious movements during an area domination patrol resulted in the discovery of concealed Pompie launchers and locally fabricated grenades.
Further operations on February 6 in Kakching’s Nongyai Hill Range uncovered 7.62 mm SLRs, single-barrel guns, IEDs, and warlike stores. On February 7 in Bishnupur’s Uyok area, security forces recovered .303 rifles, single-bore guns, pistols, grenades, and ammunition. The most significant arrests occurred on February 8, when one KCP cadre was captured in Thoubal’s Kakmayi area, while seven MNRF cadres were apprehended in Imphal East’s Tellou area, along with AK-47s, INSAS rifles, SLRs, and large quantities of ammunition.
These successful operations highlight the strong coordination and operational efficiency between the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police in neutralizing insurgent threats and ensuring the region’s security. The arrested individuals and seized arms have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation. Security forces remain on high alert, with continuous intelligence-driven operations underway to prevent any resurgence of insurgency in the region.
