New Delhi, August 14, 2025: India on Thursday issued a stern warning to Pakistan, cautioning that any reckless misadventure, including nuclear threats, would invite “painful consequences” as demonstrated in the past.
The response came after Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, during his US visit, threatened India with the possibility of a nuclear strike and warned of destroying any Indian dam on the Indus River.
At the weekly briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned Pakistan’s “reckless warmongering and hateful comments.” He said, “Pakistan would be well advised to temper its rhetoric, as any misadventure will have painful consequences, as was demonstrated recently,” referring to India’s Operation Sindoor launched after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
Jaiswal described Munir’s remarks as “irresponsible and dangerous,” stressing that Pakistan’s leadership often resorts to anti-India rhetoric to cover up domestic failures. He reiterated concerns about the integrity of Pakistan’s nuclear command and control, given its military’s alleged links with terrorist groups.
Earlier this week, India had already dismissed Munir’s nuclear sabre-rattling as “Pakistan’s stock-in-trade.” New Delhi’s sharp response underscores its firm stance on cross-border threats and its unwillingness to tolerate rhetoric that jeopardises regional peace.
By invoking Operation Sindoor, India reminded Islamabad that hostile adventurism will be met with decisive retaliation. Global observers are closely watching the escalating tensions amid heightened nuclear posturing in South Asia.
