India-US Ties Go Beyond Diplomacy, Reflect Global Strategic Partnership: Rubio

New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Highlighting the growing depth of ties between New Delhi and Washington, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said India and the United States are no longer merely traditional allies but strategic partners working together on issues that extend far beyond South Asia.

Rubio made the remarks during delegation-level discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on the second day of his four-day visit to India. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across trade, defence, technology and global security.

Addressing the evolving relationship, Rubio said the partnership between the two democracies is unique because it is not confined to regional interests. He noted that India and the US are increasingly collaborating on international challenges and exploring opportunities for joint engagement in multiple regions across the world.

The US Secretary of State pointed out that the relationship has developed into a broader strategic framework that enables both nations to coordinate efforts on critical global matters, including in areas beyond the Indo-Pacific, such as the Western Hemisphere.

Rubio also referred to discussions held during a dinner meeting with Jaishankar, saying both sides had explored possibilities for wider cooperation on emerging international challenges and geopolitical developments.

The visit is being viewed as an important step in reinforcing the India-US strategic partnership at a time of shifting global alliances and rising security concerns across several regions.

Officials familiar with the discussions said the talks covered a range of issues, including defence collaboration, economic engagement, supply chain resilience and technological partnerships. Both countries are also expected to deepen coordination on regional stability and multilateral platforms.

Rubio’s visit signals Washington’s continued emphasis on strengthening ties with India as a key strategic partner in shaping the future global order.
