New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): The Government of India is closely following developments after cargo vessel MV AGN Ragnar came under attack at Ukraine’s Port of Odesa on July 25, with four Indian crew members reported to have been on board during the incident.
In an official update, the Embassy of India in Ukraine said that two of the Indian nationals have been located and are safe. However, the whereabouts of the remaining two crew members are still being verified as emergency teams continue search and rescue operations.
The Indian mission said it has been maintaining regular contact with Ukrainian authorities and other agencies involved in the response to gather real-time information and ensure appropriate assistance to the affected Indians.
“The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation. Four Indian nationals were aboard the vessel. Two have been confirmed safe, while information regarding the other two is still awaited. Search and rescue operations are in progress, and we remain in constant touch with the concerned authorities,” the Embassy said in a statement.
Officials have not yet released details about the nature of the strike or the extent of damage sustained by the vessel. The identities of the Indian crew members have also not been disclosed.
The Ministry of External Affairs is expected to remain engaged with the Embassy in Kyiv as the situation unfolds. Officials said every effort is being made to obtain verified information and extend all necessary consular support to the crew members and their families.
The incident once again underscores the risks faced by commercial shipping operating in the Black Sea region, where maritime activity continues to be affected by the ongoing conflict. Indian authorities have assured that they will continue monitoring the situation closely and provide updates as rescue operations progress and more information becomes available.
