India Successfully Test-Fires Agni-Prime Missile from Rail-Based Launcher

National Times Bureau :- India marked a major milestone in missile technology on Thursday with the successful test-firing of the new-generation Agni-Prime missile from a specially designed rail-based mobile launcher. With a range of 2,000 kilometers, the missile demonstrated precision and reliability during the trial.

Historic First for India’s Missile Program

This is the first time India has launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile from its extensive rail network. The test, conducted from the Integrated Test Range in Odisha, showcased the country’s enhanced strategic capabilities and the ability to transport and launch the system from anywhere across the nation.

Features of Agni-Prime

Agni-Prime is an advanced variant in the Agni missile series. Equipped with a high-accuracy navigation system and canisterized launch technology, it uses solid fuel propulsion and is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads. Its short reaction time and stealthy launch mechanism make it a formidable asset in India’s defense arsenal.

Defence Ministry’s Statement

A senior Defence Ministry official said the rail-based launcher can independently move across the network, giving India unmatched mobility and operational flexibility. The official noted that the successful trial marks a significant leap in India’s deterrence capabilities.

Congratulations from Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Strategic Forces Command, and the Armed Forces on the achievement. In a statement, he said, “The successful test of Agni-Prime missile places India among a select group of nations that have developed a mobile canister launch system capable of operating from a rail network.”
