Rajeev Sharma :- As the conflict in the Middle East entered its 12th day with no clear signs of de-escalation, India intensified its diplomatic engagement to address the rapidly evolving situation that has also impacted millions of Indian nationals living in the region. India’s External Affairs Minister held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart to discuss the latest developments and the broader implications of the ongoing tensions.

The discussion focused on the escalating situation involving the United States, Israel and Iran, marking the third interaction between the two ministers since the current phase of the conflict began. During the call, both leaders exchanged views on the regional security environment and agreed to remain in close contact as events continue to unfold.

India’s foreign minister later shared details of the conversation on social media, noting that the two sides held a detailed exchange on the latest developments linked to the conflict and emphasised the importance of continued dialogue.

According to a statement from Iran’s foreign ministry, the two ministers also discussed regional developments and the impact of military actions on maritime security, particularly the safety of vessels navigating strategic waterways in the region. The conversation included concerns about the safety of commercial shipping routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor.

During the discussion, the Iranian side reiterated its position that ensuring security in the Persian Gulf remains a key priority, while also stressing that recent instability in the region’s maritime environment has been influenced by ongoing military tensions. Analysts believe the continued conflict could have wider consequences for global trade, energy supply chains and regional stability, prompting countries like India to maintain active diplomatic engagement with key stakeholders.
