India Slams ‘Reprehensible’ Vandalism at Embassy in Croatia, Takes Up Matter Strongly With Zagreb

Zagreb,Croatia (Bureau): India strongly condemned the trespassing and vandalism at its Embassy in Zagreb, where pro-Khalistan elements removed the Indian national flag and briefly hoisted a Khalistan flag at the mission premises in a deliberate provocation ahead of Republic Day celebrations.

Describing the act as “reprehensible,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it has taken up the matter strongly with Croatian authorities both in New Delhi and in Zagreb, demanding that those responsible be identified and held accountable. The MEA termed the incident a serious breach of diplomatic security and a clear violation of international obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

In a statement, the Embassy of India in Zagreb said the Indian Tricolour was immediately restored and a formal diplomatic protest lodged with local authorities.
“This act of vandalism and disrespect towards the Indian national flag is unacceptable. We have sought strict action against the perpetrators and enhanced security for the mission,” the Embassy said.

Indian authorities said extremist elements misusing democratic freedoms abroad to advance separatist agendas pose a threat to diplomatic norms and public order. India has urged Croatia to take all necessary preventive measures to ensure such incidents are not repeated, particularly during sensitive national occasions.
The Indian Embassy in Zagreb continues to function normally.
