India Seeks Action Against Pro-Khalistani Elements in US, New Zealand

New Delhi, March 17, 2025 – India has formally conveyed its concerns to the United States and New Zealand over the activities of pro-Khalistani separatist groups operating on their soil. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have sought stronger action from both countries to curb these separatist activities.

Modi raised the issue with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon during their recent meeting. Modi highlighted the threat posed by Khalistani elements and stressed the need for cooperation to tackle them. He referenced the 2019 Christchurch terror attack and the 26/11 Mumbai attack, calling terrorism in any form “unacceptable.”

“Strict action is necessary against those guilty of terrorist attacks. We will continue to cooperate together against terrorist, separatist, and radical elements,” Modi said. He expressed confidence that the New Zealand government would continue to support India in dealing with these threats.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in New Delhi and urged the US to designate the pro-Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) as a terrorist organization. Singh informed Gabbard about SFJ’s alleged ties with Pakistan’s ISI and its collaboration with the Babbar Khalsa militant group.

During their 30-minute meeting at Raisina Hills, Singh emphasized the threat posed by these groups and pressed for decisive action against them. Singh made it clear that India expects the US to take concrete measures to curb the influence and activities of SFJ on American soil.
