Illegal Weapons Racket Foiled in Kapurthala; Two Detained as Police Recover Five Pistols

Kapurthala (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant move against illegal arms circulation, the Punjab Police has uncovered a weapons supply network in Kapurthala, leading to the arrest of two individuals, including a minor. During the operation, officers seized five country-made pistols of 7.65 mm calibre from the suspects.

Officials revealed that the arrests were made during an intelligence-driven crackdown aimed at tracking illegal firearm movements in the region. The detained individuals are suspected of acting as intermediaries in a network that provided weapons to criminal groups.

Initial investigation indicates that the accused were working under the guidance of handlers based overseas, particularly in the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates. Police believe the suspects had acquired the illegal firearms from suppliers operating in Madhya Pradesh before transporting them into Punjab.

Authorities suspect that the recovered weapons were intended to be used in incidents involving gun violence and extortion, posing a serious threat to public safety. The swift police action is believed to have prevented the firearms from reaching criminal gangs active in the area.

Investigators are now working to trace the broader network connected to the operation, including those responsible for supplying the weapons and the individuals who were expected to receive them.

The Punjab Police reiterated its resolve to crack down on illegal arms trafficking and ensure that such networks are dismantled to maintain peace and security across the state.
