Chandigarh, 19.06.25: In a major crackdown against illegal encroachments, the Chandigarh Administration carried out a successful eviction and demolition drive today at Adarsh Colony, located between Sector 53 and 54, resulting in the recovery of approximately 12 acres of prime government land.
The operation commenced in the early hours of the morning, ensuring minimal disruption to public life. A significant police presence was deployed to maintain law and order and to facilitate the safe and smooth execution of the drive. The entire operation was conducted under the direct supervision of senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration & Police, reflecting the administration’s firm resolve to maintain urban discipline and uphold the rule of law.
This proactive initiative is part of a larger anti-encroachment campaign aimed at reclaiming government land and safeguarding public spaces from illegal occupations. The administration had served multiple notices and warnings to unauthorized occupants in the recent past, providing ample opportunity for voluntary compliance.
Despite previous notices, several structures and makeshift dwellings had continued to encroach upon government land. Acting decisively, the Administration mobilized all necessary machinery, including earthmovers and support teams, to remove these illegal constructions.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sh. Nishant Kumar stated that this drive is not just about reclaiming land but sending a clear message that illegal encroachments will not be tolerated. The reclaimed land will now be utilized in accordance with planned urban development goals to benefit the larger community
The Administration has reiterated its commitment to ensuring planned and legal urban growth while protecting the rights and safety of all citizens. Residents are once again urged to refrain from unauthorized construction and occupation, as the administration continues to pursue similar actions across other identified areas in the city.
