Dera Bassi (Gurpreet Singh): A court in Dera Bassi has sentenced three partners of a real estate firm, including Shahbaz Singh Sohi, the husband of Kharar Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Anmol Gagan Maan, to two years of imprisonment in connection with a cheque bounce case dating back to 2018. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each of the accused.

The verdict was delivered against Sohi, a resident of Sector 3, along with his business associates Nachhatar Singh from Naraingarh and Jatinder Singh of Zirakpur. All three were partners in the firm M/S Platinum Smart Buildcon LLP. Following the sentencing, the court granted them bail.

The case was initiated after Kamaljit Singh, a resident of Sector 21 in Panchkula, filed a complaint alleging financial fraud. According to the complaint, the accused had entered into an agreement with him regarding the sale of plots in the Silver City project located in Rajpura. However, the deal allegedly failed to materialise.

Kamaljit Singh told the court that the firm had issued him a cheque worth ₹3.5 crore as part of the transaction. When he attempted to deposit the cheque, it was returned unpaid by the bank, prompting him to pursue legal action.

The complaint was filed under Sections 138 and 142 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, along with Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with cheating.

Shahbaz Singh Sohi came into the public spotlight after marrying Anmol Gagan Maan on June 16, 2024. At the time of the wedding, she was serving as a cabinet minister in the Punjab government and represents the Kharar constituency as an MLA.
