Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): Several parts of Himachal Pradesh may receive rain on Saturday as the state prepares for another spell of active monsoon conditions. According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, light to moderate showers are likely at a number of places, while heavier rainfall is expected during the first few days of September.
Mandi is also likely to experience light to moderate rain today. The weather department has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across the state over the coming days, with a warning of heavy showers in some areas from August 31 to September 3.
Lower and mid-hill regions could see rain at isolated places, while higher elevations may receive scattered light showers. Rainfall activity is expected to remain comparatively limited in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.
The monsoon is likely to become more active from August 30. The weather department expects intermittent light to moderate rain at several locations between August 30 and September 3. Heavy rainfall warnings have specifically been issued for some areas on August 31 and September 1, 2 and 3.
Landslide risk rises in hill areas
With rainfall expected to intensify, authorities and residents in vulnerable mountainous areas have been advised to remain cautious. Continuous or heavy showers could trigger landslides and debris falling onto roads.
A rise in water levels and stronger currents in rivers, streams and seasonal water channels is also possible during periods of intense rainfall. People living close to such areas have been advised to exercise caution.
Temperatures likely to remain largely stable
There is not expected to be any significant change in minimum temperatures during the next three to four days. Maximum temperatures are also likely to remain broadly unchanged over the next 48 hours.
However, temperatures could fall by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius after that period as rainfall activity increases.
Overall, Himachal Pradesh is likely to see relatively normal weather conditions on Saturday before the monsoon gains strength over the following days, bringing increased rainfall across several parts of the state.
